AZERBAIJAN COUNTRY DAY HELD AT GAZIANTEP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Özdurak: Trade between Gaziantep and Azerbaijan Could Grow Much Faster
Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce (GTO) has added Azerbaijan to its series of “Country Days” events organized in line with its vision of strengthening global business partnerships and identifying new markets for its members.
Supported by the European Enterprise Network project, the event focused on trade, business culture, and opportunities in Azerbaijan, and was hosted by GCC with the participation of Azerbaijan’s Trade Representative to Türkiye Tamerlan Taghiyev, Chief Advisor to the Trade Representation Office Cavid Abdullayev, GCC's Assembly President M. Hilmi Teymur, and members of the Board of Directors.
Speaking at the opening of the program, Taner Özdurak, GCC's Deputy Chairman of the Board emphasized that the ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan go far beyond diplomatic relations and stated:
“Our bond is rooted in a shared history, a shared culture, and a shared destiny. As a natural reflection of this strong foundation, the commercial cooperation between our two countries continues to deepen each year.”
Özdurak: Trade between Gaziantep and Azerbaijan Could Grow Much Faster
Highlighting that Gaziantep is one of Türkiye’s most productive cities, contributing significantly to the national economy with an annual export volume exceeding 10 billion USD, Özdurak noted that Azerbaijan has become an increasingly important and strategic market for Gaziantep-based manufacturers. He continued:
“The trade volume between the two sides is now approaching 130 million USD, and we have the potential to push this figure much higher. Between January and September 2025, our exports reached 55.48 million USD, while imports amounted to 71.29 million USD, bringing the total trade volume to 126.77 million USD. In other words, trade between Gaziantep and Azerbaijan grew by 5.6% in just one year. This clearly shows us that with the right steps, trade between Gaziantep and Azerbaijan can grow much faster.”
Özdurak: Gaziantep is a Strategic Hub
Özdurak also underlined that Azerbaijan’s development vision, strengthened by infrastructure projects, energy investments, industrial zones, and investor-friendly policies, offers significant cooperation opportunities for Gaziantep companies in sectors ranging from construction and food to plastics and logistics. He added:
“With the Zangezur Corridor, the geography of Türkiye–Azerbaijan trade is changing. This route will open a continuous trade pathway to Central Asia, reducing logistics costs and accelerating trade flows. Gaziantep’s geographical position makes our city a strategic hub for trade extending to Iraq, Syria, the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. We can leverage this advantage between the two countries much more effectively.”
Taghiyev: We Are Here to Present Azerbaijan
Taking the floor after Özdurak, Azerbaijan’s Trade Representative to Türkiye Tamerlan Taghiyev emphasized the significance of the event for their side and stated:
“I bring you greetings from Azerbaijan. As two friendly and brotherly nations, our economic relations are of great importance. We want to elevate our mutual trade to much higher levels and discuss what we can do to achieve this. We are here to present our economy, our opportunities, our incentives, Azerbaijan, and Karabakh.”
Cavid Abdullayev, Chief Advisor to the Azerbaijan Trade Representation Office, then delivered a presentation informing participants about the Azerbaijani economy, investment projects and opportunities, organized industrial zones, and investment potential in Karabakh.
The event, which attracted great interest from GCC members, concluded with a question-and-answer session.
